The Granary is an absolutely charming cottage with a lot of history. Apparently in the past the pretty courtyard was the old coaching yard for the old Swan and Falcon Inn. The owner tells us Judge Jeffries presided over his court in the main building and sent any proven offenders off to the old Gaol just around the corner. Later it was used as a place for beer bottling and another era for a grain store. Having undergone a complete renovation it maintains its Olde Worlde charm and has been sympathetically turned into a really charming home with wooden sash windows and a mix of brick and stone elevations.

The old coach doors which are fitted with an intercom system open to a mix of cobbles and flagstones. The black cobbles acting as a speed bumps to slow the horses as they entered. The Granary Mews has its own private courtyard garden which is surrounded with brick walls topped with decorative lattice wood  panels. This courtyard garden is sunny area  currently filled with flower tubs and plenty of space  for a table and chairs and generally taking the rays.

The glazed entrance door opens to a small lobby with modern kitchen breakfast room (new extension) with windows to the garden and a utility cum cloakroom. The Sitting Room is quite an amazing room surprisingly light and bright it is over 29ft long and has bags of character with massive sand blasted beams. There is an old  brick and stone wall with nooks for ornaments as well as a large flagged hearth. French windows open to the courtyard as well as a part glazed old doorway and further sash window. The stairs lead to a very light landing area with atrium style windows and space for a small study area should it be required.
The two bedrooms are both doubles and the main bedroom has it’s own en suite with an extra large shower cubicle. The main bathroom well fitted with bath and fixed glazed panel and overhead shower unit.

In Summary. We absolutely loved this house. It was beautifully styled, had real character and yet was so geared to modern living. For anyone looking for a house in town,  this could be  the one. Near to all the amenities and yet hidden away in a secure position. In a tourist town this would also make a fabulous holiday let with a low maintenance garden with good nearby access to the riverside pubs (this part of the town is elevated so no chance of river flooding here). Car Parking for one small car is permitted within the main courtyard. For perhaps a retirement couple or someone who just loves town living this would be a really super home and a rare opportunity to buy something so unusual .

ROSS-ON-WYE has all the shopping you are likely to need including three supermarkets. All the extra things you associate with a tourist area are also available in and around the town i.e. gift shops, tea rooms, restaurants for all budgets, art galleries and even a small theatre. The river area below the ‘Prospect’ is a very pleasant place to spend time, particularly in the summer, watching the world go by at one of the riverside pubs, or perhaps the regatta from the boat house. There is a public swimming pool and a modern library. Markets are held on Thursdays and Saturdaysin the centre of the town in the old market place. Who needs to move to France!!
