No 83 is a really unusual house. Originally some form of shop and living accommodation it is now a surprisingly large home.

A  lot of work has been done recently including the fitting of ensuites to all the  bedrooms. However, it does need someone with either some DIY skills or a little cash to finish it off. The owner due to ill health  has now decided to spend more of his time in his home in France. Most of the work required  is cosmetic but there is still a little to do.

The kitchen 26ft won’t suit everyone as it is mostly unfitted but it has been owned by someone who loves cooking so whilst not sleek it has real character and charm. The space is there to fit new  units, if that is your bag. At the other end of the kitchen is a large corner seating unit made of old church pews with back rests, plate racks and shelving which personally we thought  very attractive. The current owner has a really large old refectory table here and it definitely suits the spot. Another old fireplace houses the kitchen range (owner will be taking  this item ).On either side of this and within the fireplace hidden in the frame itself are two opening  side panels fitted with the original  spice shelves(warm and dry).

Large sliding old wooden  panels open (right up) to the sitting room making it a very large entertaining space if needs be. The owner says he has often entertained 30 or so guests to a sit down meal here with no problem . The sitting room, again a really good size room also 26ft  has a wonderful old fireplace. We thought it was likely to be of the  Victorian era but it is a beautiful piece and with a bit of elbow grease would be a stunning feature. Throughout the ground floor a very nice tiled floor has been laid, perfectly in keeping with the style and age of the house.

Upstairs is where most of the work has been done with ensuites fitted in each bedroom as well as new, quality pine wardrobes. One of the bedrooms is on 2 levels with a staircase leading to large bathroom and dressing area. These bedrooms again with beams some exposed brickwork making them interesting and appealing.

There is absolutely no garden to this property and the parking is on the street – however there appears to be no problems getting space. There was certainly plenty of space when we arrived very late afternoon/evening.

Attached is a small cottage which the owner will keep for his own use and behind the row is a small terrace of 3 cottages.

This house definitely will not suit some people having no garden etc. However we think it could suit very well certain types of buyers.

Either someone who wants to let out rooms for commercial travelers or holiday makers or even student type rooms. Perhaps young business people sharing the purchase. As do so many youngsters nowadays wanting to get on the property ladder. Each person having his/her personal space and bathroom but sharing  cooking and reception areas. A sociable and a positive move towards getting a home of your own in the future. Nowadays solicitors can draw up contracts to enable this to work. Quite probably a lot cheaper than renting @ approx £65 per week (4 persons) and no difficult landlord. Also accruing some form of capital if the market rises.

Other than that a family home, maybe a brilliant option for persons who loathe gardening but want a good  amount of living space close to facilities.

As Cinderford is a Forest town you will hardly be deprived of the outdoors as there are acres of woodland, picnic areas and open countryside on your doorstep , literally at the end of the street. In fact that leads us  to suggest the other people who might love this house could be  a city dweller. Wanting  access to the country but with no garden to worry about when they are not in situe.

IN SUMMARY this is a character home needing  a little TLC and finishing , perhaps a new kitchen and front door. Some redecoration, some new panes of glass but nothing massive plus some tiling or carpeting in the bathrooms and bedrooms. Generally more effort than cash. Then you would have a house people would “Wow” as they came through the door.

Book a viewing… it could be for you.

Forest towns of Cinderford and Coleford both have excellent facilities for shopping and entertainment Coleford having a small multi screen cinema . Cinderford has a wonderful college with an extensive syllabus for further education. They are not considered as pretty as the nearby towns of Monmouth and Ross-on-Wye with their riverside locations but they make up for it with their stunning views over the Forest of Dean  and the friendly welcome of the locals and the helpfulness of the shopkeepers. Both have good supermarkets and health centres.
