New Inn Cottage is a delightful home – traditional in every sense of the word, it is built of rendered stone with bags of rustic character including beams and open fireplaces. Plus two large outbuildings. Situated on the Ridge between Trellech and Devauden which has fabulous views of the surrounding countryside between Monmouth and Chepstow. With really easy access to the M4 and the motorway networks at Chepstow a few miles away.

As the name suggest New Inn was originally a Coaching Inn and provides a surprising amount of space for any family with two very attractive reception rooms as well as a cottage style kitchen opening up to a Dining Room with French doors to the very attractive gardens. The owners have made improvements to the property since they purchased it 4 years ago including new bathrooms(one still being finished as we write) and will be sad to leave due to work commitments in the South East.
For anyone wanting a very attractive stone built cottage  with potential this could have your name on it.

One of the stone barns adjoins the cottage and could easily be incorporated into the main house making the most fabulous full height sitting room with stunning  views. Put a massive  window in this barn area and what a space you would have to enjoy. However if the present accommodation is sufficient (and there is plenty) it would also be ideal for an adjoining  holiday cottage, granny annexe or office suite. The other barn across the courtyard already has two storeys (first floor currently used as a design studio) and the same would apply – ie both barns just waiting for conversion and both in good condition. The gardens are delightful,  slightly terraced (two large lawns) with really established planting with elevated views- really pretty even in winter time with the added bonus of leading down to the woods below.  (Dog and children heaven.)

IN SUMMARY
First impressions are that it feels a warm, cosy and really welcoming  period family home. The slightly higgledy piggledy layout exactly what you would expect for a house that has evolved and all the more charming because of it.
It is packed full of period charm with lots of bonus points ie the view, the size, lovely gardens plus an attached barn and a detached two storey outbuilding offering great potential . Personally I would incorporate the one barn into the house which with a full height glazing to the views would transform the whole dynamic of the property making the most fabulous Sitting Room. The property borders open woodland and looks down over the ridge to the valley below. One section of the side wall abuts the road but the intrusion is minimal. With a driveway  that circles around to the front door and courtyard with plenty of parking we would not consider it a problem, particularly as we wouldn’t describe this as a major trunk route rather a country road.
All in all there is great potential here and you can see why houses along this ridge are so sought after as the location is very attractive and convenient to motorway networks etc  via Chepstow a few miles away. We would certainly recommend a viewing.

With little fishing boats moared on the river banks it is a truly delightful place to be.
