Completely renovated throughout and revamped Priory Cottage is situated less than a minute from Monnow Street in the centre of Monmouth.
Priory Cottage gave us such a surprise. Walking through the discreet entrance door it has a real Wow factor. We were amazed and delighted to see the really interesting and spacious interior.
The tiny Lobby gives away no secrets and then entering the large Dining Room with its pretty windows and the large inglenook fireplace is quite a revelation. Beautiful flagstone floors and an exposed stone wall which was apparently part of a 12th Century building in the old town wall with an original arch and arrow slit windows just adds to the whole welcoming ambience of the room. Period style windows and door overlook and open to the garden.
The light, modern galley Kitchen opens off it and leads to a further lobby with Cloakroom and on to the garden and rear courtyard.
The large Sitting Room is currently on the first floor and this layout works particularly well with a burnished cast iron reclaimed art nouveau fireplace and French windows opening onto a pretty balcony overlooking the garden with space for a small table and chairs (wrought iron circular stairs lead down to the garden below).
Leading off this Sitting Room is a Bedroom with a modern ensuite shower room but this could double up as a very nice study/library.
A further staircase leads to two further delightful Bedrooms and a period Bathroom. The ceilings on this upper floor are vaulted and show off the original Queen Beam timbers and with the pretty period windows are truly charming. The Bathroom is fitted with a cast iron Victorian (reclaimed) ball and claw foot bath and period style fitments which all add to the period style of the house.
Outside, the garden is charming and completely private with a small gravelled courtyard area perfect for dining alfresco. A small shed gives storage and there is a slightly raised corner with rose arbour overlooking the lawn which is surrounded by established shrubs and planting. A solid wooden door leads to the lane and behind the wall is a single garage.
IN SUMMARY
A really fabulous & discreet town house. Completely renovated and modernized approx 2 years ago it offers absolutely charming, light, interesting and spacious accommodation. With a garage and a sweet, manageable garden with a place off the kitchen to eat on summer days and views of the castle, what more could you want. I personally would love to live here just moments away from the coffee shops and the supermarkets etc.
NB The entrance lane is narrow but perfectly manageable my partner drove his large saloon with no problem in and out but small car ideal.
